Chattanooga, TN, September 27, 2008 - The Pointe Centre Team, led by Rex and Deb Allen, emerged as the top fundraising team for the 2008 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure(R) held this past Saturday at UTC.
Thanks to the efforts of friends, co-workers and business associates, the team raised $17,070 to help fund the fight against breast cancer.
"The Pointe Centre has been a major sponsor of the Chattanooga Komen Race For The Cure(R) every year since we held our first event in September 2000," says Sarah Bowman of the breast cancer foundation. "Their commitment and support has contributed significantly to the success of our local Chattanooga affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Not only do they serve as a corporate sponsor, they have gone above and beyond by always organizing a team to participate in the Race. The Pointe Centre team has been our top corporate fundraiser 7 of the 8 years we have recognized teams for their outstanding fundraising. Their efforts have reached far into our SE Tennessee/NW Georgia 16-county service area to help promote breast health education, treatment and screening programs to underserved populations".
The Pointe Centre Team began participating in the Chattanooga Race for the Cure in its inaugural year of 1999. The group was founded by the Allen family of Chattanooga, who like many others, were touched by this disease and made a pledge to do everything in their power to help stop this tragic circumstance from affecting other families and to spread the reality and hope of survival to those currently fighting the battle themselves.
Since that time, the team has repeatedly come through as the top fundraiser for seven of the nine years that the race has been held in our community. Rex and Deb Allen served as the honorary Chairs for this year's event.
